For most people, a bicycle ride across Canada would require months of conditioning and preparation. Yet these three fit young athletes pulled their trip together in days.
Sampson McFerrin, 19, and Jacob Grover, 22, left Victoria on June 23 with a third rider. They planned to ride all the way to St. John’s, NL, over the summer. When the third rider had to leave the group in Calgary with an injury, Sampson’s 17-year-old brother Markos joined in, and the trio carried on with their adventure – meeting new friends and camping along the way.
The group made it all the way to the New Brunswick border before they were stopped by COVID-19 restrictions which would have required them to self-quarantine for 14 days before entering the maritime provinces. Instead, they did a tour of Quebec’s stunning Gaspe peninsula before returning to school this fall.
In this video, Sampson McFerrin talks about some of the highlights from the ride.
